Deep listening year-ender: Kind Of Blue

Listen to the UHQR version of one of the greatest albums of all time. An album in particular that we only listen to once or twice throughout the year — always in December and close to the holidays. To elevate the experience a step higher, we’ve collaborated with Chef Chauncey Gardener of Unir Dining on a unique menu crafted intentionally for the occasion. Festivities will be held once again in one of our favorite spaces: The Tipping Pointe.

Come by early for our warm-up session and hand-crafted drinks, and stay late to chat about the music. RSVP below.

About the space:

The sounds:

Kind of Blue is more than Miles Davis’s most enduring record, it’s a testament to his experimental approach. A holy grail for many today, from jazz aficionados to students to seasoned musicians, the recording drastically and unequivocally changed the direction of jazz at the time. By drawing on melody and scales to create the landscape for their solos, and steering away from the chord changes more often heard throughout the fifties, they could explore deeper and take their ideas further. “There are fewer chords, but infinite possibilities as to what to do with them.” MD

In a sense, this album is all melody — and atmosphere.

Notes on the pressing:

"You really do feel like you're in the recording studio with the band; the realism of the room is that stark. I've heard the UHQR called the "apex release," and can confirm this to be true. It is, simply put, a stunning record." — Eric Pye, ecoustics.com. Read Pye's entire review here.

“Prepare yourself for what you are about to hear, which is — to my ears — so far above reproach that it has joined a minuscule list of albums I would have to classify as perfect.” — Ken Kessler, The Vinyl Adventure. Read Kessler's entire review here.

"The result (drum rolls) is the best-sounding Kind of Blue ever, superior in every way to all previous pressings, including the original. The pressing is superquiet, allowing the slightest of details to pop out from the black backdrop. This reissue holds the brass ring, for now." — Fred Kaplan, Stereophile, August 2021
